Vegetables are at risk of attack from all common species slugs and snails. SLUGGEM®, SLUGGIT® or SLUGGER® snail bait pellets can effectively control these damaging pests. Even low levels of feeding damage can be very costly if it leads to the downgrading or rejection of the crop for its intended market. Depending on the vegetable being grown damage can be to seedlings such as beet, leafy parts such as lettuce or plant buds such as Brussels sprouts.
Use SLUGPRO to assess populations. Once the level of risk and required dosage is established, include recommended snail bait of either SLUGGEM®, SLUGGIT® or SLUGGER® snail bait pellets. Exact timing will vary by the type of vegetable crop being grown but will usually be triggered by the either the first signs of slugs in the field or the first signs of damage. Application of pellets should be done with the necessary care to prevent pellets lodging in the foliage of the crop.
Continue to monitor the crop via SLUGPRO after applications and make follow up applications if necessary. Continue snail monitoring even if numbers are low, as numbers can increase rapidly over a short period.
An even distribution is important to ensure targeted species come into contact with pellets as soon as possible. Calibrate your equipment accurately. Cultural Control practices can help reduce your pellet requirement.
