Cultural Control Methods
Including cultural control methods in your practice can help to reduce slug and snail populations as well as reduce or remove the need for snail and slug bait pellet application:
- Tilling buries available food sources and also directly reduces slug and snail populations
- Removal of the organic material and weeds between crops reduces the food source for slugs and snails
- Work seedbeds to a fine tilth – cloddy fields will allow slugs and snail free movement through the soil, attacking seeds and the seedlings’ growing points
- Make sure seedbeds are firm; if possible roll after drilling
Cultivate soon after harvest, especially in dry conditions
- Consider using the following equipment in your cultivating practices:
Continue to monitor the crop via SLUGPRO after applications and make follow up applications if necessary. Continue snail monitoring even if numbers are low, as numbers can increase rapidly over a short period.
Application Methods for Snail and Slug Bait Pellets

SLUGGEM®, SLUGGER® and SLUGGIT® snail and slug bait pellets are carefully manufactured to be of uniform size and density. This, coupled with their high resistance to breakage, gives them ideal ballistic characteristics for an even and accurate mechanical application.
These benefits will be visible with all application machinery but it is obvious that the quality of the application machinery will influence the final result.
