Sluggit snail bait pellets (L6660) with 15g/kg Metaldehyde as active ingredient is a top seller that has over decades proven its effectiveness against snails and slugs in the field. Using a long lasting weather-resistant snail bait such as Sluggit is the foundation of an economical and effective snail management programme.
Where only snails or slugs need to be controlled, the use of Sluggit snail bait pellets is recommended, as snail bait and pellets containing carbaryl is also toxic to other soil-inhabiting beneficial insects such as isopods and earthworms and should therefore be avoided if snail and slug management is all that is required.
Sluggem, Slugger or Sluggit snail bait pellets should be scattered in areas that are regularly frequented by snails and slugs, such as areas around sprinkler heads. Quite often the area around fences are left untreated, when in fact these areas need to be treated with a higher concentration of snail bait pellets to prevent infestation of the adjacent plantings. Available in 500g and 25kg units.
Sluggit Prima snail bait pellets with 15g/kg (L10285), 30g/kg (L10988), 40g/kg (L10987) and 50g/kg (L10986) Metaldehyde as active ingredient has been specifically formulated to last longer in rainy conditions. Field test carried out at Roodebloem Farm, Caledon, proofed that with a 4mm daily rainfall pattern ("showerproof"), or a 10mm ("rainproof") daily rainfall pattern Prima declined at a significantly slower rate compared with a reference product.
And that for the duration of the test the integrity remains such that the snail bait pellets are still viable, palatable and unlikely to significantly disappear into the soil structure.

The timing of any baiting with Sluggem, Slugger or Sluggit is critical; using snail bait pellets is less effective during very hot, very dry, or cold times of the year due to snails and slugs being less active during these periods. Irrigate before treating with Orchard Agri Chemicals snail bait pellets, in order to promote snail activity, and apply the snail bait pellets in the late afternoon or evening.
Snail monitoring should be part of all growers routine checks. Counting snails 7 days after application will provide a good indication of the baiting’s effectiveness. Currently only available in 25kg units.
