During the harvesting season farmers in grain-growing areas work night and day to bring in their harvest. This is also the time when the conical snail reproduces. It appears that the snails know instinctively how to avoid the grain fields where farming implements criss-cross the fields while harvesting.

The conical snail appears to prefer laying its eggs on the contour walls. Since there is little movement on the contour walls, the eggs are unlikely to be disturbed, while the green vegetation is a source of food and shelter for the next generation. By doing so, the snail population will be a problem for farmers the following year (if this is not already the case on many farms).

Perhaps the time has come for us to address the problem pro-actively. Even though this is a busy time of year, it will only be to your benefit to spread snail pellets to destroy a large part of the current and the future generation of snails.
