With a heavy fog that hangs over the Caledon area the Roodebloem Experimental Farm resembles a scene from a ghost movie.

From time to time visibility is reduced to almost nothing. Despite this, hundreds of conical snails are appearing from the organic material of the contour walls, making their inexorable way to the new green growth just a short distance away.

Their determined march means only one thing: plant damage. Their appearance this late in the season reinforces the importance of participating in a programme like the SlugPro that ensures regular monitoring.

Teamwork between farmer, chemical representative and Orchard Agrikem is the key to success, and should play an important role in all farming operations. When Sluggem, Slugger or Sluggit are applied on the contours depending on requirements, plant damage are kept under control.

A speedy response to snails by treating with the right snail bait pellet can prevent damage and losses – and ensure farming success. Our support and knowledge are there to benefit you, so please call us on 071 485 2550 or email at This email address is being protected from spambots.
